Matt? / I can't sleep. / Oh, it's only a half past five. What is it? You've been like this since yesterday. You were like a cat on hot bricks last night. / Yeah. I've got a lot on me mind. / Like what? / Gilvert's Cross, other stuff. I'm going for a walk. / At this time in the morning? / It's the middle of the day for some people. Half of Ambridge've been up for hours. / Yeah. Even so, are you sure you are all right? I mean, that's really all it is? Work? / What else would it be? / It's ... You are such a worrier, that's all. / There's a lot at stake ... ... / Your paper mill, yeah, I know. / There you are, then. I'm fine, Lilian. I've just got a lot I need to think through.

... ... Morning, Kenton. / Oh, hiya, Jazzer. A lovely day. / Sure it is. ... ... all right for you? / Ah yeah, terrific. The empties are outside. / Yeah. I saw them. Ta. .... Guess who else I ... seen this morning. / Ah, well, we had the UFO last week, the astroid the week before, so,... / Matt Crawford. / Oh yeah? / It's a bit early / probably got / meeting in London or something. / No. I / walking. / Oh. .... Ah, Lynda. Another early bird. / What does Lynda Snell want you for at this time of the day? / to ask / remind about tonight. The Fete committee meeting. / Tonight? / Fete / for a month yet. / July 21st / Aye. Month. / at all / to get organized. This is the second meeting we've had already. / tonight / looks like / a long one. She wants to discuss this year's big idea / Ambridge Fete / face-painting extravaganzas. The central theme. What's it to be. / Sure / know / to be / does she? / given / big idea / last year's Fete / Really? / You'd better fill me in. / Forewarned is forearmed / Lynda.

Again? But the plumber was only there last week, was it? .... OK, Mrs. Chrichton. / Brenda / Bye. .... Morning, Matt. Can you believe / again on the / I'm sure you've got it all in hand. Now, tell me, Brenda, what's happening / end of June / nothing. / wrong answer / 23rd, of course. / mention / a god mother. / You are not booking a holiday then? / A holiday? I wish. / Excellent, 'cause me and Lilian are gonna be away / Again? / That's right. A little break. But,  / anything / OK? I wanna tell her the good news meself.

Here you go. One fizzy water. / Thank you, Kenton. I think you'll find that's correct. / Oh, thanks / yes, I, uh / might put our head together in advance of tonight's meeting. / what about the big idea / among other things, I have had a couple of thoughts. / trying to carry votes, Lynda. / I wouldn't dream of it. / So, everyone's suggestions are welcome? / every idea will be considered on its merits. / Excellent. / You / Brenda / of course / there you are. / And Brenda, my fellow god mother. / Yeah. All we need now is Neil / christening Roy here / water / Oh, ice bucket. Nice touch. / are you joining us, Brenda? / No / outside / quick half-hour / I see / before / just wanted you to know that we are here. / Well, why don't you do that, Vicky, while I / tea / brilliant / see you, Brenda. / Yeah, bye. / Bye. / a quick half hour, or / quick drink, then? / and a long mourn / dear / great day at the office? / Honestly, Kenton, / gets worse / came in / Friday off. Matt went / tell me / holiday next month. / Again? / That's what I said.

So, now, to the main business of Fete. / couldn't make it. / or Hayley / work late. / never mind. We are / pretty good spare of opinion. So, I was wondering .... / It's all right. I'll let him in / But who,.... who is it? / Jazzer / not too late I hope / late for what, dear? / Hi, Vicky / you / Oh yeah yeah, I suppose so / we are in the middle of meeting, Jazzer, / committee / I know. You invited me along last year / What? I / such thing / You did so, when you and me discussed ... big idea / Well, I'm afraid I don't recollect any disscussion with you last year or at any time / OK, folks, so, it goes like this .... / Excuse me, excuse me. You can't just burge in  / perhaps we'd better / Lynda / What? / Thank you. Well, / sports Fete , and, / after last year's / extravaganza / idea / spice it up a bit, with a Highland Games / Hey, that sounds fun / Yeah, it does. / No, it doesn't. It sounds completely preposterous / what do you mean exactly, Jazzer? What / highland games entail? / basics / tossing the  / tossing the hammer / oh, and a stone / very practical. very user-friendly. / You'd have to adapt them a bit, obviously. / The point is, it's a great do for everybody, you know, the healthy games in fresh air, a bit of excercise. / and there / all the things / Highland Games, aren't there, / cultural things, Lynda. / Cultural? Jazzer on his bagpipes? / Exactly. / I do think he sounds, well, rather different,... / Ha. / ...not in a good way. Kenton, as you were involved in last year's games, you must have some idea. / distinct possibilities, Lynda / It's always a good idea to have something for the nippers. / You are very quiet, Vicky? / Well, I,... it seems quite a good idea to me. / Really? / Well, I'm afraid / absolutely no recollection of talking to you about this last year, Jazzer, but it is one idea, certainly. However, this meeting has been convened as a forum for discussion, and I do, actually, have another suggestion of my own. / Here we go. / Right. So, now, if I could outline / it may also have some appeal.

Cheers. / Cheers. / I'm glad you seem in a sunnier frame of mind. / Oh I am. I feel in / quite / already. / Steady on. / bank holiday / not for a couple of weeks yet. / No, no. But you're right. Me head's clearer. I've got a lot of things straightened out. / Huh huh? What sort of things? Work? / Yeah, work, but mostly, you and me, Lilian. / I didn't know I was on your agenda. / You are always on my agenda. / So, what conclusions have you come to? / It's easy, as far as you and me / go anyway. / been / enough time together / office / trivia / I mean quality time. / Right. / we had a good time in Paris, huh? And  / New York / Yeah, we did. I really enjoyed both of them. / Me too. So, that's the answer, keep getting away from it all. / What? / when we can. / So, I've bought us another ... / What? .... Uh, when? I mean, I can't just drop everything. / awful. I suppose you are thinking about your mom, are you? Worried about leaving her in the l...ch / I can't leave Jenny to do it all. / No need to worry. We don't  / June the 20th. That gives you enough notice, does it? / Yeah. Yeah. I .... should be able to arrange things round that. / Good. / You are being very mysterious though. You could've tell me where we are going, you know, which city break we are doing this time,... / No no no no, it's not a break it's a full two weeks. / Two weeks? How lovely. So, where are you taking me? / It's Turky. Istanbul. / Istanbul? Oh, how exciting. Oh, Matt, that sounds wonderful.

Now, as you'd all be aware, this year marks an important bicentenary. / Bi what? / The publication of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. So, I thought, as Ambridge's tribute, a Regency Fete. / Right. What sort of elements, Lynda? / I did / a few things down. / here / in appropriate costume, of course. Site-specific readings of Miss Austen's work around the village. / Readings? What, like books? / something for you, Vicky. / Oh. / We / private school of dance / demonstrate / The what? / respect, Lynda / I don't think / Why not? / Site-specific? I,.... For example, / Jane Austen / ever go near ... pub? / smelling / can't be too literal / what people're going to understand diddly-squat ... like that? / you / something for everybody. / Absolutely. Inclusivity, that's the key. Now, if / Jazzer's idea, then that's / Ambridge's own / Olympic / legacy / right here / participation for all. / That's true. / Really? / what about non-athletes? / maybe / Angela / Scottish dansing, Lynda / Thanks. / Vicky. / I promise, Lynda, / I've learned all the lessons / last year / organization this time / will be top-notch. / Jill, as someone with years of Fete experience, can you really see these games working? / Well, yes, I can. And I do think it's a good idea to have something for the children. / Oh yeah. / You could always do your Jane Austen idea at the book club, Lynda, whereas, if we don't do Jazzer's idea at the Fete, .... / I see. Well, perhaps the best way will be to put it to the vote. ...... All those in favor of a Highland Games ......... and, against. / Hah. Resolved. Hahhh. / Carried. A Highland Games it is.
